What is SMFA Medal Awards
The SMFA Medal is awarded annually to individuals who have made a significant and lasting impact on the art world. The gala—which includes a seated dinner and silent auction—raises vital funds for scholarships and educational opportunities for SMFA students. The Medal Award was first presented in 1996 on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In the time since, the School has paid tribute to some of the most noteworthy artists and influential art patrons of our time.
What did I do?
2015 Medal Award winner was John Baldessari. Because of a medical complication he was unable to leave Los Angeles to go and receive his medal.
I was asked to connect with John Baldessari and shoot and conduct an interview on art education and the important role of supporting the arts education. It was a pleasure meeting, interacting and working with such an icon. I am very grateful!
Additionally, the fact that I am an alumni of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and was there on scholarship during my education, I shared a few thoughts of my own on the importance of supporting art education, how it impacted my process in becoming who I am now. SMFA was kind enough to share that video after Baldessari's interview with the attendees that night.
